    Views diverge on dams, flooding, fish passage

    The costs to rebuild Montgomery Dam and maintain it over the next 50 years are estimated at $1.3 million. It would cost the same amount to remove the dam and open up fish passage by recreating a natural river channel through lower Harbor Park. Adding and maintaining fish passage to the Montgomery and upriver dams costs at least an additional million per dam. Grant funding is expected to lower lifetime costs for removal of Montgomery, Knox Mill and Knowlton Street dams and some fish passage options.
