Water company acquisition: No change anticipated

Water rates rise as Aqua Maine completes filtration project
A water rate increase request filed by Aqua Maine Inc. Feb. 26 with the Public Utilities Commission became effective Aug. 1. According to PUC Director of Communications Ellen DeFrees, the original request for a 23.6 percent increase was reduced to 20.95 percent during the course of the settlement negotiations. Aqua Maine files for third rate hike since 2008
Aqua Maine Inc. filed a water rate increase request for its Camden and Rockland Division on Feb. 26 with the Maine Public Utilities Commission. The request is for a 23.6 percent increase in revenue, or $1,127,000 annually. The PUC has up to nine months to review the request and make a final decision, although a decision could be made sooner.
