A plan on how to spend a big influx of federal money hit a snag when Peter Beckett questioned the cost of its most pricey element, a town niche wall for cremation remains. He later called it “mind boggling” that colleagues would consider a project absent solid numbers.

Plan to store, scatter cremation ashes at cemetery expected to live or die at Appleton board meeting
Appleton’s down to space for only several dozen more graves at the town cemetery, so a new plan proposes installation of what could be hundreds of small lockers to store funerary ashes beside a small garden where loved ones who prefer it can scatter the ashes of the deceased.

Appleton saw a record turnout for annual town meeting, with 404 voters. A majority supported continuing town meeting by secret ballot referendum and favored budgets for the CSD and Appleton Village School.
