Rockland — The following is a synopsis of the 2017 Oceanside High School field hockey team:

Coach/years coached current team: Joanna Hall, ninth year.

Last year's record/playoff information: 3-9-2, 12th in Class B North. The Mariners failed to qualify for the playoffs.

Roster: Seniors Erin Dugan, Taylor Hamlin and Anna Paulsen; juniors Laura Boutin, Makaila Hickey, Mattie Hooper and Lexi McMahan; sophomores Amanda Frost, Julia Bartlett, Hannah Simmons, Audrey Young, Marina Lamkins and Jade Philip; and freshmen Alexa Barstow, Lily Judecki, Grace Young, Emma Young, Caileigh Pease, Erin Corcoran, Lydia Laslavic, Lainie Hooper and Emma Gerrish.

Known graduation losses: Ainslee Meklin, Shannon Ripley, Alexis Mazurek and Madelin Young.

Significant impact athletes: Dugan, Frost and Hamlin, who may miss most or all of the season with a foot injury.

Team strengths: Senior leadership and an influx of young talent.

Team goals: To work hard and earn its way into the playoffs.

Top league opponents: “Class B North is going to be brutal this year,” said Hall. “It is always super competitive, which makes it so exciting for the girls. With [Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield] and Winslow added back into the mix, I don’t think there will be one or two dominating teams but many good close games throughout the season.”

Outlook: “I am very excited about this group of girls,” said Hall. “We are young and will be putting several freshmen onto the field. They are collectively the strongest freshmen class I have had in several years and they are working really hard to make the adjustment to the demands of the high school game. Our veteran players are doing a great job bringing them along. If we are healthy and gain confidence as we improve throughout the season, we could realize our goal of qualifying for postseason play.”
