Waldoboro — The Waldoboro Recreation Department will host Pitch Hit & Run™, the official skills competition of Major League Baseball®, presented by Scotts®, on Saturday, May 17, rain or shine, at the Waldoboro Recreation Complex.

Registration begins at 10 a.m. at Charles "Chuck" Begley Memorial Field.

Midcoast boys and girls are eligible to participate and compete separately in four age divisions: 7/8, 9/10, 11/12 and 13/14. Age is determined as of July 17, 2014.

Pitch, Hit & Run™ is a grassroots program designed to provide youngsters with an opportunity to compete free of charge, in a competition that recognizes individual excellence in core baseball/softball skills. The competition includes pitching at a target, hitting balls from a fixed tee for distance and accuracy, and running for timed score.

Participants have the opportunity to advance through four levels of competition, including the team championships at Fenway Park in Boston, Mass. and the national finals at the 2014 MLB™ All-Star Game®. The individual pitching, hitting and running champion, along with the all-around champion in each age group and division, will advance to the sectional competition on Sunday, May 18 in Old Orchard Beach.

Those not registered in the Waldoboro/Friendship Division of Medomak Valley Little League must present proof of birth date.

For more information, call Kyle Santheson, Waldoboro Recreation Department director, at 832-5369.
