Writers workshop focuses on presenting

Jun 12, 2019

CAMDEN — BestLit Review, hosting a series of Summer Writers Workshops at the Camden Public Library, announces a special workshop on the skills of "Presenting," Sunday, June 23, from 2 to 4 p.m. It follows a practice workshop on Sunday, June 16, in the library's history room at 55 Main St.

Event organizer Eva Morris invites authors, poets, play or screenplay writers, all performing artists, to practice their presenting skills in a friendly, positive environment. The workshop begins with an indoor practice, including the use of microphones and speakers, in the Picker Room. Writers will then have the opportunity to read their work again, in the outside amphitheater, which will be set up for the Jazz Festival. In one day, workshop participants will be able to read their words twice and practice in two professional environments. This special workshop is a great way to strengthen and hone a writers skills in presenting ones written work. No prior experience required.

Morris says, "All writers, poets and authors must be able to present their work properly. It's not an easy challenge, especially if one is camera-shy. But it doesn't negate the fact that properly presenting your words in public is a skill a writer must have. In the course of your career you'll never know when you will be called upon to present your work, so I invite all writers and storytelling performers to take this good opportunity to learn, and improve, and prepare for that important moment."

Each writer will read for up to 10 minutes, and the opportunity is available for writers to be recorded. This private recording will be emailed to them, to watch and learn from. "This hands-on method is one of the best for drawing writers' attention to their own power of presentation."

Evolved presenters are encouraged to use either of these recordings as potential YouTube videos, or as an addition to their professional author sites.

Each participant's share for camerawork is $20; BestLit Review authors free. For more information or to sign up, please contact Eva Morris, BestLit Review, at (772) 217-7070 or
