Ray records ace, Hooper, Harper grab senior titles, weekly play at Rockland Golf Club

Heald, Hocking, Goldsmiths, Sasek, LaBree, Sprowl earn gross crowns

Rockland — The following is news from the Rockland Golf Club:

On Monday, Aug. 3, in the Central Maine Seniors tournament, Bob Ray of Manchester recorded a hole-in-one on the 125-yard, par-3 18th hole. Ray used an 8-iron to earn his second career ace.

The accurate tee shot was witnessed by Peter Meucendyk, Paul Auger and Dou Chai.

On Sunday, Aug. 2, in the club's senior championship event, Randy Hooper finished first overall at 74 for men and Kathy Harper first overall at 89 for women.

For men, Skip Heald finished first gross 75 and Mark Manzi first net 71 for ages 50-59; Bryan Hocking first gross 76 and Hank Read first net 67 for ages 60-69; Larry Goldsmith first gross 85 and George Rahaim first net 76 for ages 70-79; and Dean Sasek first gross 98 and Artie Sprowl first net 83 for ages 80-89.

For men playing from the forward gold tees, Victor Goldsmith finished first gross 76 and Rich Moskowitz first net 66.

For women, Kathleen LaBree finished first gross 91 for ages 50-59; Wendy Dewing first gross 99 for ages 60-69; and Kathy Sprowl first gross 96 and Diane Bryant first net 68 for ages 70-79.

On Sunday, Aug. 2, in men's league team points play, the group of Larry Schooley, Warren Marshall, John Spear and Rob Splaine finished first at -5; and James Anderson, Peter Stuart and Andy Arey, as well as Rick Knight, Tom Quantrell, Craig Lord and George Rahaim, tied for second at -7.

The pin winners were: Craig Lord, 9-4.5 on the 10th hole; and Peter Stuart, 7-8.5 on the 18th.

On Thursday, July 30, in women's association "6-6-6" play, Sally Stockman, Wendy Dewing and Diane Bryant combined to finish first at 71; and Kathy Sprowl, Jan Staples and Heidi Lyman, second at 78.

The pin winners were: Diana Bryant on the fifth; Kathy Macpherson on the 10th; and Kathy Sprowl on the 18th.
