Union — A Westbrook woman was fortunate to escape any serious injury when her car went off Route 17 and flipped over Oct. 14.

Maria Owen, 37, was driving east on Route 17 in a red Toyota Corolla around noon. Another vehicle was stopped and turning left into the True Value Hardware store. She did not see the vehicle in time and slammed on the brakes. The car then went out of control and ended up off the side of the road, against a tree, across from the store.

Union firefighters and ambulance crew responded to the scene, along with officers from the Knox County Sheriff's Office. Traffic was limited to one lane on Route 17 for about half an hour.
