Rockland — Are you ready for some — running?

More than 30 people were up for that, or at least walking, as they participated in the inaugural "Kickoff" 5-kilometer road race/walk on Sunday, Sept. 8.

The event, presented by First National Bank, was among the Midcoast 5-kilometer race series, One Community Many Voices' annual quartet of fundraiser events.

Nathan True, 30, of Camden finished first overall at 18:28. The first female finisher was Erin Fitzgerald, 39, Owls Head, 23:45. She was sixth overall.

In keeping with the theme of the race, the winning male and female earned a "game ball," which was an NFL football signed by runners.

Age-group winners also received an astroturf coaster.

The "Kickoff" 5K was the third race in this year’s series, which will be followed by the "Frightening" 5K in October.

The September race started and finished near First National Bank.

Runners were asked to wear their best — and most obscure — football jerseys, as one was selected for a special prize.

The race was scheduled so one could hoist a celebratory beer at one of Rockland’s bars just as the 1 p.m. football games kicked off.

The "Kickoff" 5K was the ninth event in the 2019 Run Midcoast Maine series.
