Windjammer jayvees set course for 12-win season

Rockport — The Camden Hills Regional High School girls junior varsity basketball team had a great deal of success during the 2013-14 season, a campaign which saw the Windjammers excel against the majority of the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class B subvarsity squads.

Led by coach Doreen Robbins, the Windjammers sailed to a 12-4 record on the season, with their only losses coming to Oceanside of Rockland/Thomaston (twice) and Lincoln Academy of Newcastle (twice).

Team members included junior Jane van der Schaaf; sophomores Avery Roy, Taylor Peasley, Lydia Hill, Kristen Keiran and Kathryn Snyder; and freshmen Julia Holt, Kelsie Merrill, Maddie Wickenden, Mara Dostie, Kendra Bergelin, Myia Hanson, Tora Decker-Griffth and Becca Westbrook.

Van der Schaaf led the team in points (157) and rebounds (106), while Snyder led in assists (44) and Keiran in steals (48).

Other notable players and stats included Dostie (107 points, 44 steals, 25 assists), Keiran (99 points, 37 assists), Snyder (82 points, 56 rebounds, 44 assists and 32 steals) and Roy (55 rebounds), the coach said.
