Bath — With the start of April vacation and despite a stomach bug depleting the ranks, a group of 13 girls lacrosse players converged on McMann Stadium on Saturday, April 14 on behalf of Oceanside High School for the Sagadahoc Tourney.

The Mariners finished 1-1-1 on the day, which consisted of 25-minutes games. Oceanside dropped an 8-2 decision to Messalonskee of Oakland and bested Bangor 8-0 before managing a 1-1 tie with Cony of Augusta.

In the team’s 8-2 loss to Messalonskee, Hope Butler scored both goals for Oceanside, while Lydia Laslavic made seven saves in net.

In the team’s 8-0 win over Bangor, Gabby Straka, Nicole Ladd and Butler scored two goals for the Mariners, while Mattie Hooper and Olivia Dougherty tallied one.

In the team’s 1-1 tie with Cony, Straka scored the lone goal for the Mariners, while Laslavic made three saves.

Oceanside coach Angie Vachon said she was pleased with the efforts of her players.

“I was pleased with the work of our newest players and their continued betterment of movement on defense,” said Vachon. “Of note was Emma Young’s work in the midfield and around the eight-meter as she hedged up well to help our midfielders contain the ball. Hope Butler with her clean checks caused some turnovers that lead to success for her team. Gabby Straka used her dodging skills well and Nicole Ladd helped fill the midfield on offense and the fans saw some great team passing today. Caileigh Pease is enjoying her time on the circle and does a great job boxing out her player and attacking ground balls. Lydia Laslavic did a great job versus Messalonskee, a top contender in Class A lacrosse. She was hit in the helmet on a penalty shot and as great goalies will do, shrugged it off and got back to work.”
