Wheeler returns to the Strand

Rockland — Acclaimed contemporary folk singer/songwriter Cheryl Wheeler will perform Saturday, Oct. 21, at 7:30 p.m. at the Strand Theatre, 345 Main St. Singer/songwriter Kenny White will open the show.

Wheeler, known for her hauntingly beautiful voice, performs songs that are often intense emotional portraits of people. A natural storyteller, her live concerts are interspersed with humorous stories, as well as serious discussions. Wheeler is a gifted writer whose songs have been covered by artists as diverse as Dan Seals, Peter Paul and Mary, Kenny Loggins, Garth Brooks, Suzy Boggus, Melanie, Bette Midler, Maura O'Connell, Sylvia, Kathy Mattea and Holly Near. She has released 13 albums.

White got his start as a fixture in the New York City studio scene, writing and producing hundreds of commercials for TV and radio. In this capacity, he worked with artists such as Gladys Knight, Linda Ronstadt, Dwight Yoakam, Ricky Skaggs, Kim Carnes, Felix Cavaliere, Dobie Gray, Mavis Staples and Aaron Neville, among many others. He went on to produce albums, and contribute as a writer and musician to movie soundtracks. He is touring in support of his latest solo release, “Long List of Priors.”
