Waypoints Forum to feature Hannah Pingree Feb. 8

Hannah Pingree is a featured speaker at this year's Waypoints Forum.

Portland — The third annual Waypoints Forum, hosted by the Island Institute, will take place Friday, Feb. 8, from 1 to 4:30 p.m., at the The Westin Portland Harborview, 157 High St. The forum will feature a conversation between Island Institute President Rob Snyder and Hannah Pingree, director of Maine’s Office of Policy Management, who was recently appointed by Gov. Janet Mills to develop a framework for transitioning the office into the Office of Innovation and the Future.

Other featured panelists include: Xavier Botana, superintendent of the Portland public schools; Jason Mitchell, president and chief operating officer of Whole Oceans; Sandra Stone, chair emerita of Maine Angels; Chris Thompson, principal of Thompson’s Point Development Co.; Marci Train, teacher at Long Island School in Casco Bay; and Alton Ballance, community leader and author from Ocracoke Island, N.C.

The event will also include multimedia presentations, including the premiere of an animated short called "Sea Level Rise in Maine" by O’Chang Comics, of Rockland, and an audio collage called "Voices from the Waterfront" compiled by Galen Koch of The First Coast Project as part of a collaboration with College of the Atlantic, Maine Sea Grant and the Island Institute.
