Water main break closes section of Main Street

Rockland — The frigid weather is creating headaches for utility crews.

A water main broke on Main Street next to Mildred Merrill Park on New Year's morning.

As of 11:30 a.m., Main Street was closed from Myrtle Street to Pleasant Street. A large pool of water was spreading across the intersection of Pleasant and Main.

The temperature was about 5 degrees above zero as Maine Water workers responded to the break.

As of 2:30 p.m., the stretch of Main Street was still closed.

Central Maine Power also reported 46 homes without power on Brewster, Cedar, John and Knox streets in Rockland as of 11:30 a.m. The power was restored before 2 p.m.
