Rockport — A Washington motorcyclist was injured early Sunday afternoon, Aug. 4, when a car pulled into his path on Route 17 in Rockport.

Mark Porter, 58, was driving west on Route 17 near the intersection of Meadow Street on a 1998 Harley Davidson when Eduardo Bernal, 66, of Camden, pulled out to turn left from Meadow Street, according to Camden/Rockport Police Chief Randy Gagne.

The motorcycle struck the driver's side of the 2001 Honda Accord.

Porter was thrown from the motorcycle and suffered a possible broken leg.

The motorcycle caught fire in the middle of Route 17.

The crash occurred shortly after noon.

Route 17 and a section of Meadow Street were closed for at least an hour as Rockport police, Rockport fire and Northeast Mobile Health Services responded.

The car had considerable damage to its driver's side and was on the side of the road near the motorcycle.

The crash remains under investigation, the chief said.
