Warren man seriously injured in Camden crash

CAMDEN — A Warren man was seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash June 30 on Route 1 in Camden.

Richard Payson, 66, was driving north on Route 1 about a mile north of Camden Hills State Park, when his vehicle went off the road, struck several mail boxes, traveled into a ditch, struck several small trees and then hit two larger trees and came to a stop, according to Camden Police Officer Samuel Butler. Payson was driving a 2018 Dodge Grand Caravan.

The crash occurred around 8:31 a.m. Payson was not wearing a seat belt and was seriously injured, according to the police report. He was transported by North East Mobile Health Services to Penobscot Bay Medical Center, and then transferred to Portland, according to the report. The Camden Fire Department assisted at the crash scene.

The incident is currently under investigation.
