Walter Henry

Warren — Walter F. Henry, 96, died peacefully at his home Saturday, Nov. 17, 2018, with family by his side.  Born in Thomaston Aug. 26,1922, he was the first son of Arthur J.  and Mary Linekin Henry. Walter grew up in Thomaston, graduating in 1941 from Thomaston High School.  He enlisted and served in the Navy during World War II, spending much of his time at sea.  On leave from duties, he married his high school sweetheart, Elizabeth L. Fales, March 26, 1945, in Thomaston.  After being discharged and returning home, he and his wife settled in Warren, where he was a poultry farmer.

After years in the hen business, they moved to the Gray area, where he was farm manager at Opportunity Farm for Boys. Later he worked as a caretaker for various estates.

Returning to Warren to enjoy his retirement years, he and Elizabeth spent time traveling, which included going twice across country, cruises to Alaska, the Panama Canal and Bermuda, as well as many short road trips to out-of-the-way places. He loved the camp with big family gatherings. Always self-reliant, up until just a few months ago, he cut and split his own firewood. He had a special place in his heart for the many dogs and cats that he had over the years. He enjoyed his vegetable gardens and tending the flower gardens with his wife.

Henry, granddaughter Emily Hathaway, great-grandson Shai Hathaway, five sisters and a brother, Walter is survived by his brother Arthur D.
