Rockland — The Center for Maine Contemporary Art, 21 Winter St., presents its first Tuesday Talk of the season July 18 at 5:30 p.m. with artist John Walker in conversation with former Farnsworth Art Museum director Christopher Crosman.

The hour-long Tuesday Talks are an engaging series of conversations related to CMCA's current exhibitions and timely topics in contemporary art. Tuesday Talks are free with admission.

Walker and Crosman will discuss the artist's recent paintings on view in the exhibition, "John Walker: From Seal Point." Walker has been painting the view from his property for more than two decades. Writing about Walker’s work for a 2014 exhibition at Alexandre Gallery in New York City, Crosman described the artist’s Seal Point paintings as “… primordially tidal, literally marked with and by wind-driven currents and light dissecting the water.”

Walker (born 1939 in Birmingham, England) is a resident of South Bristol. He has exhibited widely internationally, including representing England at the 1972 Venice Bienniale. From 1999 to 2014, he led the graduate program in painting at Boston University; and previously taught at Cooper Union and Yale University.

Crosman served for 18 years at the Farnsworth and is the founding chief curator of Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, Bentonville, Ark. He has written extensively about American art and artists including “Islands for Andrew Wyeth: In Retrospect” for an exhibition currently at the Brandywine Museum in Chadds Ford, Pa. Other recent publications include catalog essays on the work of Will Barnet, Anne Arnold and Lois Dodd.

Upcoming Tuesday Talks include a "Reel to Real" presentation with artist William Wegman July 25 at the Strand Theatre. For more information on Tuesday Talks and exhibitions at CMCA, visit cmcanow.org.
