Waldorf Schools celebrate 100 years

Ashwood seventh graders clean up the Unitarian church in Rockland, in 2018. This year efforts are dedicated to the Waldorf Hand in Hand Community Engagement Initiative, a project of the 100th anniversary celebrations of Waldorf education.

Rockport — Ashwood Waldorf School, 180 Park St, Rockport, will celebrate Waldorf education’s 100th anniversary Sept. 13 with a homecoming party from 5 to 7 p.m. The public is welcome. There will be a potluck dinner, live music, song, dance and a birthday cake with 100 candles. Ashwood alumnus Alden Robinson (and friends) will be playing traditional fiddle music for the occasion.

In celebration of Waldorf education’s centennial, Ashwood Waldorf School joins other schools worldwide engaging in social and environmental impact projects. A series of short videos on Waldorf education and its centennial celebration can be found at ashwoodwaldorf.org.

Waldorf Education founder, Rudolf Steiner, formed the first Waldorf school In Stuttgart, Germany in 1919. Today there are over 1,100 Waldorf schools and almost 2,000 Waldorf kindergartens in 80 countries around the globe.
