A Waldoboro man was arrested April 10 in Belfast on charges stemming from an interview with a 14-year-old girl who told police the man had sexual contact with her.

Earl Leathers, 27, was arrested on two counts of sexual abuse of a minor.

Lt. Jason Trundy with the Waldo County Sheriff's Office said the offenses occurred in Waldo County, and that Leathers and the victim "knew each other through family."

Trundy said the investigation began after a person who knows the victim told a detective they suspected Leathers had been engaged in some kind of sexual activity with the girl.

Trundy said the detective, who is familiar with the girl, raised those suspicions with her, at which point the youth told the officer about the alleged abuse.

I personally don't think that smile on his face will last too long once he gets into jail. From what I hear, those that find themselves faced with sexual assault of a minor, get their just rewards the day they arrive "home" and will no doubt face their makers. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

It appears he is proud of what he has done.
