Waldoboro celebrates Oktoberfest Oct. 12

Waldoboro — Waldoboro will celebrate its German heritage with an Oktoberfest event Saturday, Oct. 12, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m with a rain date of Oct. 13 at Cider Hill Farm, 785 Main St.

For adults, the schedule will include games, such as Nagel Balkan, a German nail game, barrel roll racing, beer tray relays and a Waldoboro trivia contest. For children, there will be a show by Sir Douglas and His Puppets, a sack race, and the magician Conjuring Carroll. There will also be pumpkin cookie decorating for children, and cornhole and giant Jenga for all ages.

Musicians will be playing at the event later in the day from 10 a.m to 3 p.m., including The Rusty Hinges, Kat Logan and an Oktoberfest German band.

In addition, from 10 a.m to 1 p.m, Jean Lawrence of the Waldoborough Historical Society will give talks about Waldoboro’s German history at the Old German Church, 235 Bremen Road, Route 32.

There will be soft pretzels, a selection of smoked sausages, kraut and stuffed pork loin sandwiches from Morse's Sauerkraut, German desserts from Sweet Morning Bakery, ice cream from Total Victory Ice Cream, plus hamburgers and hot dogs from the Narrows Tavern. On the premises is Barstow Farms, which sells pizza, calzones, sandwiches, a hot meal of the day, and a variety of beverages. There will also be a biergarten for adults 21 and over.
