Rockland — Vera Rose Lambert Pine, 104, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2020.

She was born Jan. 29, 1916, on Deer Island, New Brunswick, Canada. She married DeCosta Neve Pine April 11, 1940, and together they had three children.

Vera grew up on Deer Island and was a hair dresser by trade. She and her husband moved their family to Rockland in 1953, where most of her time was spent raising their children.

She enjoyed gardening, dancing, ice skating, Red Sox, family and dear friends. Everyone who knew Vera heard her stories of growing up on an island without electricity or phone, remembering the first time they got electricity and phone, attending a one room school house, her sister making a trek from Deer Island to St. Andrews on a frozen bay.

On her 100th birthday she became an American citizen. In Vera’s later years, her dear friends Lee, Glen, Nat, Charlotte and Edna were always there to visit and take her on outings.

She was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, DeCosta Pine; parents Esther Stuart and Wallace Lambert, a brother, Wesley and sister Thelma.

She is survived by three children, son Vincent Pine and his wife, Patricia, daughter Vivian Kennedy and her husband, Maurice, and son Maitland Pine and his wife, Nola; eight grandchildren Kristen, Stephen, Kelli, Maurice, Peter, Todd, Andrew and Ainslee; 13 great-grandchildren Alexis, Casey, Kaitlin, Marissa, Alexis, Trenton, Caden, Brady, Parker, Harrison, Nayla, Josie and Sidney; and one great-great-grandchild, Mason.

There will be a private family graveside service.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, New England Division, 1 Main St., Suite 300, Topsham ME 04086, or the American Diabetes Association, New England Chapter, 1260 Cochituate Road, #200, Framingham MA 01701.
