VA Maine Healthcare System gives update

Mar 22, 2020

From the state of Maine Department of Veterans Affairs:

VA Maine Health Care System operations are adapting due to the emergence of the COVID-19 virus in our community to maintain a healthy environment for our Veterans, family members, and staff. In an effort to confront emerging challenges related to COVID-19 transmission in our community, we are initiating emergency measures to prevent avoidable transmission of illness here within our medical center.

To date, two VA Maine Healthcare System Veterans have tested positive for COVID-19. Both were tested in the community and are currently on home isolation practicing self-care in accordance with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines. On March 20, 2020, one VA Maine Healthcare system employee tested positive for COVID-19. In accordance with CDC guidelines and the employee’s status, the individual is currently on home isolation, mitigating further risk of transmission to other patients and staff. Due to privacy concerns, we cannot provide additional information.

Updates on VA COVID-19 cases can be found on the national VA Public Health page.

In order for VA Maine to provide continuity of care to our Veteran, we are asking for your assistance. If you are tested for the Coronavirus (COVID-19) at a community healthcare facility or are contacted by the Maine CDC, please communicate to them that you receive care through the VA Healthcare System.
