Union — Union has come together to support each other during the stay-at-home order related to the coronavirus pandemic.

Town Manager Jay Feyler said in a press release that the Union Assistance Fund has grown over $12,000. The purpose of the fund is to assist local businesses and families.

Feyler said the fund began when a citizen asked how they could help local families during the pandemic. “Soon, others wanted to help local businesses,” said Feyler, “and thus the Union Assistance Fund grew!”

Feyler said the money has been used to aid local families with issues such as food, bills and medicine.

He said the fund also supports the purchase of gift certificates and free dinners from local businesses such as Common House of Pizza and Four Corner Variety, which have been given out to Union residents.

Feyler also said the funds helped the Come Spring Food Pantry purchase 200 pounds of ground beef.

Many of the giveaways are featured on Feyler’s Facebook page for the town: Union Maine USA.

Feyler said the fund continues to assist Union businesses and residents.

“We have secured some 3-ply non-medical masks that we will be offering residents to help them and our community stay healthy,” he said. “In the coming weeks we will be helping many other businesses and individuals.”

If anyone would wish to donate to the fund, make checks payable to Union Assistance Fund, PO Box 186, Union ME 04862.
