Belfast — Two inmates — including an Owls Head man — who walked away from the Maine Coastal Regional Reentry Center last week are back in custody.

On Sunday Oct. 4, officers from the Ossipee Police Department in New Hampshire received a report of a suspicious vehicle parked in a boat launch area at a local campground. When officers arrived, they located a 2002 Ford Ranger with Maine registration plates.

The officer ran the vehicle information and learned the truck had been reported stolen from Searsport Oct. 2.

Officers had seen two men walking in the immediate area and when they attempted to locate them observed they were no longer on the roadway. A canine and handler were called to the scene and, after a short track, Cameron Dana, 24, of Owls Head and Dakota Raven, 24, of Knox were located sitting in a stream.

Both subjects were arrested on the outstanding Class C escape warrants issued by the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office in Belfast. The two men were taken to the Carroll County Correctional Center. Both suspects were charged with New Hampshire offenses of receiving stolen property, a class A felony and resisting arrest, a class B misdemeanor.

Both Dana and Raven were scheduled to be arraigned in Ossipee court Oct. 5. Dana was at the re-entry center on charges of escape and violating a home release program.
