Town of Rockport announces municipal operations changes

Rockport — The Town of Rockport continues to closely monitor the pandemic status in Maine and in Knox County and will continue to make additional decisions and provide updates as the situation warrants. Our goal is to keep our community safe by reducing the risk of exposure to COVID-19 in our community.

As of March 18, 2020, at 1 p.m. the Town Office is closed to the public. The staff at the Town Office will be working the regular hours (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and can process transactions over the phone, by email or mail. Many transactions can also be handled online (www.rockportmaine.gov).

Citizens should call the Town Office first (236-9648) and we can also arrange appointments for any transaction that requires face-to-face business. For building or plumbing permits or inspections call the Town Office. The state of Maine has extended all vehicle registrations for 30 days after the current civil emergency ends, including temporary plates.

All other Town buildings (Public Safety Building, Public Works Garage, Opera House, Harbor Building and library) are also closed to the public until further notice. All employees continue to work, and each department can be contacted by telephone or email.

For emergencies call 911; Police Department, 236-2026 (non-emergencies); Fire Department, 236-4437; Public Works, 236 -6245 Library, 236-3642; Harbor, 236-0676. Persons seeking General Assistance should call the Town Office at 236-0806 and the town will process applications as needed.

Select Board meetings and other essential or required meetings will be held and announced as usual through the town’s website and media. These meetings can now be attended by remote methods by board members and residents can watch the meetings via Livestream from the links on the town’s website. All nonessential board and committee meetings are cancelled until further notice.
