MIDCOAST — World-renowned jazz singer Spider Saloff performs at three local venues this July. Her first performance is a benefit for the Cancer Support Center of Maine on Thursday, July 18, at 7 p.m. This show is at The Old Town House, 128 Town House Rd., Union. All proceeds go to the non-profit group to assist in its efforts to provide services to those in Maine suffering from the effects of debilitating cancer. For information and tickets, call the Cancer Support Center at 322-0960.

The second performance on Friday, July 19, at 7 p.m., is a benefit for Friends of the Rockland Public Library. This concert is at the Rockland Elks Club, 210 Rankin St., Rockland. Last year’s event was a near sell-out, so the new Elks venue provides additional seating and enhanced viewing. Local musicians Dick White on guitar and Spike Hyssong on bass will again accompany Saloff. Cocktails will be available. Tickets are $20 in advance at the library’s circulation desk or $25 at the door. For information, call the Rockland Public Library at 594-0310.

Saloff’s final Maine appearance is on Saturday, July 20, at 8 p.m. at Skal, a new speakeasy club at 6 Bodwell Ln., Vinalhaven. For information and advance tickets, call 863-4882. For more on Skal, visit the “Skal” Facebook page or “islandspeakeasy” on Instagram.

Saloff has performed extensively both throughout the United States and internationally. She recently completed a one-month tour of Australia, which received wide acclaim. She has made numerous recordings and performed extensively in venues in New York and in her hometown of Chicago. Her style has been compared to Peggy Lee, and her renditions of works by Cole Porter are legendary.
