Thomaston — Thomaston has hired Allie Payor as the new Deputy Clerk and Deputy Tax Collector.

Payor had her first day on the job Oct. 5, and said she is already enjoying her new position.

Her duties include filling in for the Town Clerk and the Tax Collector in the event of their absence, as well as assisting customers in the town office.

Town Manager Kara George said her duties may include other tasks as well. “We all wear many hats,” George said of the town office employees.

Payor has past experience as a municipal employee. She was working in the Hope Town Office prior to taking this position, and is familiar with the new software the Thomaston Town Office transitioned to in July.

Municipal work seems to run in Payor's family. Her sister, Chelsea Summers, currently works at the South Thomaston Town Office. Summers’ brother-in-law Wyatt Summers is the Rockport Deputy Town Clerk.

“We are happy to have her,” said George. She added that when she arrived at work Oct. 5, Payor was already at the front desk helping a customer.

Payor said she will be very involved with the upcoming November election, and ran the March primary in Hope.

A big concern for Payor is the amount of misinformation circulating about absentee ballots currently. She already helped many residents with questions and concerns regarding the absentee ballots and how to receive them.

Thomaston has received more than 500 requests for absentee ballots, according to George. The office employees set up the new ballot drop-box outside the office Oct. 5. George said the ballots will be going in the mail Oct. 7.

Payor is a Midcoast Maine native, and graduated from Midcoast Christian Academy. She then attended the University of Maine, where she earned a degree in Business Administration.

The Select Board will confirm Payor's employment at their next meeting Oct. 14.
