Thomaston — The town of Thomaston has purchased a ballot drop box for the upcoming election in November. The drop box will also be available for future elections.

Town Clerk Melissa Stevens said the purchase came after much discussion with Town Manager Kara George.

“The drop box can be fairly expensive,” said Stevens. “I have had a lot of requests from our residents to have such a box.”

Recently, Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap announced that qualifying municipalities would be reimbursed up to $1,500 for such a purchase.

“We knew this was the perfect time to move forward,” said Stevens. “We want to do everything we can to keep our residents safe when casting their absentee ballots.”

The ballot box will be placed outside the entrance of the town office only during elections, and Stevens said it will be bolted down.

Stevens contacted other municipalities throughout the state to determine which ballot drop box would be the best for the town. “The box we chose seems to be a good fit for Thomaston,” she said.

I hate to pop your usual illogical bubble Mr Winslow.... I'm an Independent. Always have been... always will be. Nice enough for ya?

Mr. Robinson, clearly a Democrat, causing trouble with unbecoming rhetoric. You probably never heard words from your mother, "if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all."

Probably Billy Barr will be announcing an 'executive order' banning drop boxes any day now and Rudy will be showing up with bolt cutters and carrying it off to the postage machine junk pile.

It would be great if Rockland could also provide a drop box.
