Thomaston — The second floor and attic of an attached garage were damaged Wednesday evening when a lightning strike sparked a fire.

The fire was reported at 6:46 p.m., July 8, at 56 Brooklyn Heights Road in Thomaston, Fire Chief Mikial Mazzeo said July 9. Town assessment records show the property is owned by Joshua Shepard.

The chief praised crews from 10 departments with stopping the fire from extending to the house. The additional departments were needed for manpower and to shuttle water to the scene since the property was beyond where the fire hydrants are.

There were no reported injuries.

Responding to the fire in addition to Thomaston were crews from Rockland, Rockport, Camden, St. George, Friendship, South Thomaston, Warren, Waldoboro and Cushing.
