Thomaston — A candidates' night has been set in Thomaston for residents to meet the three people running for the open seat on the Board of Selectmen.

Town Clerk Kara George announced Zel Bowman-Laberge, Charles Frattini and Diane Giese all turned in nomination papers by the July 19 deadline to fill the term expiring in 2021.

Since selectmen are elected, a special election must be held to fill the position vacated by Beverly St. Clair, who resigned amid controversy in town government.

Frattini and Patricia Hubbard were defeated at the polls in their quest to become selectmen in June. Sandra Moore was voted into office.

The candidates' night will take place Monday, Aug. 19, at 6 p.m. in the Watts Hall auditorium, 174 Main St. Mike Mayo will act as moderator for the evening.

The special election by secret ballot will be held Tuesday, Aug. 27, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the American Legion Hall, 10 Watts Lane.

A candidate preview will be published prior to the candidates' night.
