The VillageSoup Community Poetry Contest

Jul 31, 2017

Rockland — Do you write verse in your spare time? Enter your original poem for a chance to win a Kindle Fire and bragging rights.

In the spirit of the Millay Arts & Poetry Festival being held Sept. 7, 8 and 9 in Rockland, we wanted to create opportunities for poets in our community (Knox, Lincoln and Waldo counties) to showcase their work and compete for a prize. The first-place winner in each category will receive a new Kindle Fire. Second- and third-place winners will receive free subscriptions to VillageSoup online or the Courier Publications newspaper of their choice.

Rules:

The deadline for submissions is Aug. 21.

Submit one poem per entrant. Indicate whether you are entering the youth category (age 16 and younger) or adult category (older than 16).

Poems must be no longer than one page (12 point font size). Poems must be original work of the author, not published previously.

Include your name, address, email and phone number (entries without this information will be disqualified). Entrants must be from Knox, Lincoln or Waldo County, Maine. Courier Publications employees and direct family members are not eligible.

Any poem submitted may be published online or in print. We serve a general audience and may edit or disqualify a poem that uses profanity or other inappropriate language.

Poems should be emailed to Editor Daniel Dunkle at ddunkle@villagesoup.com with "Poetry Contest" in the subject line or snail mailed to him at 91 Camden St., Suite 403, Rockland, ME 04841.
