The Rockland LBC Celebrates Our 100th Cat Adoption!

Back in January of 2012, the Rockland LBC became a satellite adoption location for cats from the Pope Memorial Humane Society of Knox County (PMHSKC). The idea behind being a satellite adoption location is that we provide a temporary living space for cats and kittens from the PMHSKC. This not only grants an opportunity for the cats to get more visibility and therefore a higher chance of adoption, but it also helps to free up much needed space at the often over-crowded shelter. Since its inception, our cat cage has seen a vast variety of cats; from just itty bitty 8 week old kittens to more mature adult cats.

Six months after the cats came to Rockland, the Belfast store became a satellite adoption location for the P.A.W.S. Animal Adoption Center. Not too long ago they reached 79 adoptions!

The best thing about having the shelter kitties in our stores, besides being able to play and cuddle with them through the work day, is seeing them find their forever homes. We’ve had some lovely success stories, like Mickey from the PMHSKC who arrived at the shelter near death from an infection. After receiving some much needed care and attention, he became one of our store cats. He was quickly adopted by a family who had adopted another one of our kittens, Marilyn (now Munchkin), and were looking for a buddy for her. And then there’s Leland and Hope from P.A.W.S. who have actually come back to the Belfast LBC to visit!

Saturday the 15th was a big milestone for the Rockland LBC as we adopted out our 99th, 100th, and 101st shelter cats! Little Ann, Vittorio, and Volumnia who were brought to the store only a day previously, all found forever homes (siblings Vittorio and Volumnia were adopted together!).

While neither store has cats at the moment, if you are ever interested in adopting one of our satellite cats (we typically post their photos and information within a few hours of their arrival) you can stop by either location to grab an application. The process is a bit different in each store: in Rockland you can fill out the application in store and we can fax it over to the PMHSKC for you or you can take it to the shelter. You do have to go to the shelter to sign paperwork and pay the adoption fee if your application is approved. Belfast handles all the paperwork in store so adopters don’t have to travel all the way to Camden. Typically those that fill out applications hear back from the respective shelters within, at most, two days. Usually a decision is made within the same day.

It’s been a fantastic two years being able to host cats from both the PMHSKC and P.A.W.S. and we look forward to many more years and getting to celebrate many more adoptions.

Until next time, Loyal fans!
