The Mavericks slated for Savage Oakes

Mar 27, 2018

Union — The Mavericks, with special guest JD McPherson, will perform Thursday evening, July 19, beginning 7 p.m. as part of the popular summer concert series at Savage Oakes Vineyard and Winery, 175 Barrett Hill Road. Tickets go on sale March 30.

The Savage Oakes music venue offers an intimate outdoor concert experience. Food and a wide variety of Maine craft beverages will be served. Tickets, $60 in advance, are festival- style general admission; attendees are invited to bring along lawn chairs and blankets.

The genre-defying Mavericks have stepped out on their own with “Brand New Day,” the first studio album released on their own Mono Mundo Recordings. The follow-up to widely praised albums “Mono” (2015) and “In Time” (2013), “Brand New Day” flashes the same exhilarating, beyond-category style that has defined the Mavericks. The new album introduces a collection of taut, energetic, economical songs sure to be embraced by both original fans of their top-10 albums and hit singles of the 1990s, as well as the new generation of listeners who have joined the party since their triumphant 2012 reunion.

JD McPherson is more a pioneer than roots resuscitator, although his fervent delivery has a touch of revival. McPherson offers a spirited, almost spiritual, hybrid that brings the forgotten lessons from the earliest days of rock ‘n’ roll into a future that has room for the modernities of studio technique and 21st-century singer/songwriter idiosyncrasies.
