The Depression, from a child’s eye

Owls Head — Local author Noel Oakes will speak about growing up during the Great Depression Saturday afternoon, Oct. 21, during a meeting of the Mussel Ridge Historical Society. The meeting will run from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Owls Head Community Building, 224 Ash Point Drive.

Oakes is author of “Making Do and Getting By” and “Martha’s Diary and Her Life in Jarvis Gore, Maine.” He will offer his child’s eye view, age 5 to 12, impressions of the Depression years.

The event is free, with donations accepted, and refreshments will be served. For more information, call 594-4774.
