The Bolshoi’s ‘Nutcracker’ at Strand

Rockland — Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker,” performed by the Bolshoi Ballet, will be presented as a captured-live high definition broadcast from Moscow Sunday, Dec. 17, at 1 p.m. at the Strand Theatre, 345 Main St.

In the story, young Marie is given a wooden nutcracker as a gift on Christmas Eve. When the clock strikes midnight, the Nutcracker transforms into a prince and saves Marie from the Mouse King and his army. This beloved holiday classic, with its fairytale setting and Tchaikovsky’s timeless score, is appropriate for the whole family.

The Bolshoi’s version of “The Nutcracker” is danced by Denis Rodkin as the courageous Prince and Anna Nikulina as Marie. Choreography is by Yuri Grigorovich. The Bolshoi Ballet is an internationally renowned classical ballet company, based at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, Russia. Founded in 1776, it is among the world's oldest ballet companies.
