CAMDEN — The set for the upcoming spring play, Noises Off, at Camden Hills Regional High School, is one of the largest and most complicated ever built in the "black box."

Not only is it two stories high, but the set is revolved twice during the performance by the eight-member tech crew.

Rick Ash’s theater tech classes built and designed the set this semester. It has been seven years since the high school has offered theater tech classes during the second semester, when the spring play is presented. It was a "definite boost to have their contributions to the effort," of set building, according to the school's "Windjammer News."

The centerpiece of the set is a 16 by 8 foot platform that will be rotated by the tech crew during the performance. The front of the set depicts a two-story building, with a ground floor porch and a second floor balcony, flanked by a two-story staircase on one side and an interior wall, complete with lighting fixtures on the other side.

The back of the set depicts the "backstage" view common to any theater set. Both sides of the set are integral to the British farce, Noises Off, which features a play-within-a-play, where the actors are seen both on stage and behind the scenes.

Camden Hills is staging Noises Off as a dinner theater, inside the cozy confines of the black box. While they eat, diners will be treated to the extra entertainment of watching the tech crew revolve the massive set.

Noises Off will be performed May 10, 11, and 12. A three-course dinner will be served. Space is limited, so reservations are required to guarantee a seat. To make a reservation, call 236-7800 ext 3282.

Break a Leg!  Many Camden High students went on to Civic Theater and were much accomplished! Such talent!
