Rockland — The smallest entrant in the 2019 Annual World Championship  Boat Yard Dog Trials ended up being top dog.

Tattoo, a papillon from Waldoboro, won the championship Sunday, Aug. 11, in the tongue-in-cheek competition held as part of the Maine Boat and Home Show. The show is held annually at Rockland Harbor Park.

Tattoo's biography states that the 7-pound dog is first mate on the lobster boat Already There. Her handler is Lisa Lane.

Tattoo wrested the championship from two-time champion Zola, the Wonder Dog, of Cushing.

The five competing canines are supposed to run an obstacle course on a float and retrieve items in the water. If not, the owner must perform those tasks.

The 17th Annual Maine Boat and Home Show concludes Sunday afternoon.
