Talk: Winter Camping Essentials Dec. 4

Nov 20, 2019
Lincolnville Community Library will host a presentation on Winter Camping Essentials Dec. 4.

Lincolnville — Matthew Silverio, chief of Northeast Mobile Health Service’s Mountain Rescue Team, will give a free presentation on how to stay safe and comfortable while winter camping, Wednesday, Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. at the Lincolnville Community Library, 208 Main St. in Lincolnville Center.

Silverio will talk about proper layering of clothing, moisture management and essential things to carry along for recreating outside in winter. He will also discuss what people should do when lost or injured in the wilderness and how the search and rescue response teams work in Maine. In addition to leading the Mountain Rescue Team, he is a member of Pine Tree Search and Rescue.

Silverio has been camping, skiing, climbing, paddling, and running in the Maine woods for more than 30 years. Having spent many nights outside during the winter, he said he sometimes enjoys camping in that season more than in the summer.
