Talk to present root causes of terrorism Sept. 20

Sep 06, 2017

Rockport — The Rockport Public Library presents a talk by Tom McCarthy Wednesday, Sept. 20, at 5:30 p.m. at the Rockport Opera House, 6 Central St.

McCarthy will address not only the human price of targeted violence, but also the root causes of a flawed perspective that attempts to justify extreme measures. He will present and discuss the social, political, and religious influences that have led to the creation of this perspective utilizing topical videos and anecdotal snapshots gained from personal experiences.

A graduate of Northeastern University and a Vietnam veteran, McCarthy is a retired U.S. Secret Service special agent. Since 1995, he has traveled worldwide – including to war zones – for the Department of State, lecturing and providing training to host countries’ security forces. He has lectured extensively for other entities, including John Jay College of Criminal Justice. He now lives in Camden.
