Take a closer look at Camden library artwork

CAMDEN — During the month of July, the Gallery of the Jean Picker Room at the Camden Public Library, 55 Main St., will feature paintings by Sara Gagan and etchings by MF Morison.

Gagan’s work is an animal-centric combination of oil painting with elements of collage. “One might regard these paintings as representational in style: fairly realistic portrayals of random species, both wild and domestic,” said Gagan. “Upon closer examination, however, elements having little to do with the ‘reality’ of the animals being portrayed (or their usual habitats) become apparent.”

Morison is primarily a printmaker and produces the majority of her work through the method of intaglio copper plate etching. She refers to her work as “a distillation or representation of the natural world.”

The artists’ reception will be Thursday, July 18, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. For more information, call 236-3440.

The Arts & Entertainment deadline is Thursdays at 5 p.m. for events dated on/between the following two Thursdays. Please email press releases/photos to A&E Editor Christine Dunkle at
