Winthrop — Steven Robert Winchenbach, 73, passed away Nov., 23, 2018. After a long battle with dementia and Wegener’s disease, he finally succumbed to his illness. Steve was born to parents Robert and Flora Winchenbach in Rockport Oct. 9, 1945.

Known as “Little Stevie” as a child battling brain cancer, he miraculously survived after a long fight and support from his community. He went on to graduate from Rockland District High School in 1963 and continued on to Central Maine Vocational Technical Institute.

As an active Boy Scout, Steve maintained a love for hunting, camping and fishing. As an adult, Steve worked in construction, for his father’s cabinetmaking business, and with Snap-On Tools, followed by opening Wink’s Mini-Mart in Livermore. Steve continued to work as a master carpenter and later worked with Androscoggin Home Health as the maintenance director until he retired in 2012. He remained active with his hobbies of woodworking, puzzles, modeling and playing with his dog, Kaylee, before moving into assisted living.

Steve is survived by son, Todd, and his wife, Deena, with granddaughters Ava and Leah of New York; two sisters, Elaine with sons Alan and Kevin, and Linda with daughters Marianne, Kathy and Rachel, all of Maine; his two aunts, Doris Prock and Jean Winslow; as well as other nieces and nephews and former wife of 31 years, Beverly.

Steven was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Flora, sister Cheryl, brother Bruce, and second wife Shirley Ann Dudley.
