St John's to hold Feast Day Celebration

The Episcopal Church of St. John Baptist in Thomaston will celebrate the feast day of the Nativity of St. John Baptist on Wednesday, JUne 24th.

There will be a celebratory Evensong Service at 5 pm posted on Facebook, the parish website and YouTube; featuring the Rt. Rev. Thomas Brown, the Episcopal Bishop of Maine as the preacher, Sean Fleming and Tony Antolini perfoming the Church Sonata for Organ and Piano which was written by Myron Roberts, and an outdoor choir adapted for pandemic times.

The feast of the Nativity of St. John Baptist mirrors the feast of the Nativity of Jesus six month later.  Both occur around the soltice time.  The feast of John is at a time when the light slowly begin to diminish and the feast of Jesus' birth occurs when the light slowly begins to grow larger.  This is an annual reminder of John's proclaimation that He (John) must decrease so that Jesus must increase.

All are welcome to join in the viewing of this service.

It is not the same as when we all can gather, but it does not diminish the opportunity to mark this feast time.
