Rockport — The 17th annual Allen Insurance and Financial High School Tennis Challenge — as it does each year — showcased three of the best boys court programs in the state in a high-profile tuneup prior to the regular season.

Camden Hills and Falmouth — which vied for the state Class A championship in June — along with Cape Elizabeth, itself a high-profile Class B program, hit the indoor courts at the Midcoast Recreation Center on Friday, April 5, with the present and future of the sport in the high school ranks in action.

By night's end, Falmouth finished at 2-0, Camden Hills 1-1 and Cape Elizabeth 0-2.

The preseason event originated in 2002 when former Camden Hills coach Chris Walker-Spencer and MRC's John Lippman, a former Windjammer tennis coach, and Steve Crane, the former CEO of the Allen Agency, wanted a way to bring a strong boys tennis presence to the Midcoast prior to the regular season.

In recent years, Michael Pierce of Allen Insurance and Financial has been instrumental in the event.

Camden Hills is scheduled to begin its defense of its Class A North  championship on Thursday, April 11 at home against Bangor.
