Spirit of love inspires Camden concert

Feb 02, 2020
Pianist Matthew Mainster, Director Maryann Jacks and vocalist Susan McGovern rehearse for "Songs of Love & Inspiration" Feb. 16.

Camden — The Rockland-based Play It Forward Music Company, LLC celebrates the spirit of love and Valentine’s Day with “Songs of Love and Inspiration” on Sunday, Feb. 16, at 3 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, 55 Elm St. The Shields Mission Project, an outreach ministry of the First Congregational Church of Camden, has been named the recipient of the music company’s “Spotlight On Community” award for this concert.

The music company, directed by Maryann Jacks and comprised of all volunteer musicians, performs in support of local community organizations. They will take the audience on a musical journey depicting songs of love, romance and inspiration that will warm the heart and lift the spirit. Featuring Matthew Mainster on piano and multiple other musicians, the hour-long show will include 17 songs. A visual presentation will silently announce each song as musicians quietly move throughout the venue and transport the audience in time.

The Shields Mission Project helps provide direct aid to individuals and families in crisis with immediate needs. It helps citizens of Knox County and Lincolnville with warmth, shelter, food, clothing, transportation, education, childcare, health care and more to enable them to live productive and self-sustaining lives. As a recipient of the Play It Forward Music Company’s “Spotlight On Community” award, the project is included in concert publicity, honored and recognized for their work at the concert, and given a donation from a portion of the concert proceeds.

Jacks feels the Valentine’s Day holiday, coupled with the difficult political climate of today, creates the perfect time for “Songs of Love and Inspiration," and says, “I think it will be a nice way to bring people together, celebrate the holiday, and share some time with someone you love."

The concert has a suggested donation of $10, and all are welcome. For more information, email, call (732) 890-3958, or visit
