Rockport — The 49th annual Rockport Public Library book sale was in full swing on July 13, as bibliophiles perused and purchased thousands of books. Hosted by Friends of the Rockport Library, this year's event was held at the Midcoast Recreation Center, and volunteers had worked for months leading up to the sale, organizing and pricing books.

Carefully arranged by subject and in alphabetical order, the books covered dozens of tables in the hockey rink of MRC. In addition to paperback and hardcover texts, an assortment of puzzles, DVD's and CD's were for sale. The book sale will continue on Saturday, July 14 from 8 a.m. to noon, followed by a box sale from 1 to 3 p.m.

Last year's book sale, combined with the library's annual membership campaign, netted $17,000 in fundraising monies for the Rockport Public Library.

In addition to organizing the annual book sale, members of the Friends of the Rockport Public Library work to promote public recognition and awareness of the library, publicize library events and resources, and offer their time as library volunteers. Friends is a non-profit organization.
