Rockland — A solar farm is being proposed for an expansive parcel in Rockland.

The request for a pre-application meeting for the solar farm was submitted to the Rockland code enforcement office Nov. 16 by Rockland Solar 1 LLC and Borrego Solar Systems Inc. of Lowell, Mass. for a 44-acre parcel at 78 West Meadow Road.

The parcel is located on the east side of West Meadow between Thompson Meadow Road and Sherer's Lane. The property is owned by Judith Meklin of Cushing, according to city assessment records.

Details on the solar project have not yet been filed by the developer, but are expected to be filed in late December. A telephone message left for Borrego Solar was not responded to as of Wednesday.

The application states that the project will be a "ground mounted distributed generation solar project."

The Rockland Planning Board is scheduled to hold a pre-application meeting Tuesday, Jan. 5.

There is one solar farm that has been in place for Rockland for the past two years off Holmes and Lovejoy streets. That has 912 solar modules.
