Waldoboro — The following is a synopsis of the 2014 Medomak Valley High School girls tennis team:

Coach/years coached current team: Marcia Robbins, 12th year.

Last year's record/playoff information: 4-8, 11th in Eastern Class B. The Panthers lost to No. 6 Mount Desert Island 5-0 in a preliminary playoff.

Roster: Seniors Haley Mank and Elly Baubonis; sophomores Morgan Black and Emily Wotton; and freshmen Maggie Ryan and Nashelle Monroy.

Known graduation losses: Isabelle Lobley, Bailey Black, Danica Dever and Angela Gray.

Significant impact players: Mank, Baubonis, Black, Wotton, Ryan and Monroy.

Team strength: Youth.

Team goal: To stay competitive in Eastern Class B.

Top league opponents: Camden Hills of Rockport and Waterville.

Outlook: This season figures to be a tough one for the Panthers as only two returning players have varsity experience and with only six players (seven are needed for three singles and two doubles teams), the Panthers will have to forfeit one match out of the gate each time they take the court. Robbins hopes to get a few more players before the start of the regular season.

Robbins said her goal is to “get them ready and to feel comfortable on the courts.”

Ryan will occupy the team's first singles slot, while Mank and Baubonis will make the jump from second doubles to second and third singles, respectively, the coach said.
