Rockland — Summer arrives in the Lime City Saturday, June 16, thanks to the annual Summer Solstice Celebration Street Party and Dock Party put on by Rockland Main Street, Inc. All events are free.

First up is the Street Party, which runs from 4 to 7 p.m. downtown. Main Street will be closed to traffic between Park and Summer streets, to be filled by families, friends, locals and visitors. The free festival includes live music by at least three bands, food vendors, children’s activities, local dance company performances and the occasional flash mob, as well as a whoopie pie eating contest.

The 21-and older Dock Party follows down the end of Tillson Avenue as dancers and cornhole players cavort in the shadow of vessels housed in the Journey's End Marina building that faces the harbor. Dan “the dancing lobsterman” Miller will DJ sets of danceable tunes before and between sets by Living Room Circus, the Midcoast’s alternative rock cover band focused primarily on music of the ‘90s. There will be a cash (only) bar and food for sale.

The 2018 Summer Solstice Celebration is sponsored in part by Journey’s End Marina, LCI Communications, Back Cove Yachts and Bud Light; media sponsors are The Courier-Gazette, VillageSoup and The Free Press.
