Silent auction to raise funds for new playground

Karen Grubbs and Linda Poli, office administrators at Miller School, pose with one of the items donated by a student to be included among classroom-created raffle baskets. These tickets are available from Miller students or PTO members for $1 each of six for $5 – top prize is an Amazon Kindle valued at $199 and 18 other winners will take home baskets of sweet treats, games, toys, books, etc., varying in value from $15 to $75.

Waldoboro — On Friday, Dec. 7 from 6 to 8 p.m. there will be a fundraiser to help support rebuilding the playground at the Miller School.

The Miller School PTO is hosting this fundraiser in an effort to rejuvenate the playground behind the school — which is also pretty much the only public playground in town. A lot of the equipment is old and outdated, and there isn’t enough out there for the special needs population to participate in.

There are more than 125 items to choose from. A select few will be designated as silent auction items, while the majority will be part of a festive bucket raffle. Admission to the event is free, and one needs to be present to win. Food will be available for purchase and bucket raffle tickets will sell for a 25 cents each or five for $1.

Some of the items available include gift baskets perfect for holiday giving, tickets on the Amtrak Downeaster from Brunswick to Boston, overnights at Portland Harbor, Christmas Cove, or down the road at Le Vatout, Saddleback Mountain ski tickets, Reny’s gift certificate, a fun Recycle Art lobster, assorted handmade crafts, many gift certificates from restaurants raging from Deb’s Diner to Texas Roadhouse — the list is long and varied.

Donations will be gladly accepted up until the very last minute. They can be dropped off at the Miller School office at 145 Kalers Corner St., Waldoboro. For more information email or call Jen Vannah at 380-2474.
